Cant open files from other apps?

When I open a Google sheets file in another app (Chrome, Safari, Facebook, etc.) and it asks if I want to open the file in this app instead, the app starts up and then just goes to the Recent list of files that were last opened. It doesnt actually open the file.

Great app otherwise, but having to open a file on my computer first before it can show up on that screen for me to view is a huge issue for me; I know it hasnt always been like this, but its pretty frrustrating.
